Application Process

  1. Submit an application form
  2. Upon acceptance into the volunteer program, you will be invited to attend a hospital volunteer orientation.
  3. Training will be provided by a seasoned volunteer until you feel comfortable working by yourself.

Volunteer Guidelines

MaineHealth Mid Coast Hospital volunteers:

  • Are team players—providing great customer service wherever needed
  • Have positive attitudes, and are cheerful, friendly and enthusiastic
  • Are willing to help patients and families, whatever the situation may be
  • Understand that safety is our top priority, and everybody’s business
  • Have a high respect for patients and their families
  • Absolutely understand the importance of patient confidentiality
  • Work at being good listeners and making eye contact
  • Work effectively with all care team members, paid or unpaid
  • Have the ability to follow directions well
  • Attend hospital volunteer orientation and specialized training
  • Are dependable and available for one volunteer shift a week, for at least six months
