Quality Improvement

The Quality Improvement curriculum starts during intern orientation when the Senior Quality Officer meets with orientees and reviews and demonstrates the process for safety reporting. PGY1’s complete a number of assigned Institute of Healthcare Improvement (IHI) modules.

During protected simulation curriculum time, the program conducts a mock Root Cause Analysis (RCA) with leadership from Risk Management. In addition residents participate in training sessions on Error Disclosure with standardized patients through the Hannaford Simulation Center.

During the PGY2 year, residents will actively engage and participate in departmental or local practice quality initiatives and projects with faculty leads and project managers from the Center for Performance Improvement.

Additional optional/elective opportunities are available as well including additional project work, or additional training that may lead to quality improvement certification status.
