At MaineHealth, our doctors, specialists and rehabilitation therapists make up the team that evaluates and treats patients with a concussion or head injury. We focus on providing complete care to patients of all ages who have had a mild traumatic brain injury.
What is post-concussion care?
Post-concussion care helps people regain function and return to a normal life.
After a concussion, or mild traumatic brain injury, people often have post-concussion syndrome. People do not need to lose consciousness (pass out) to have post-concussion syndrome.
Symptoms include memory loss, headaches, dizziness, irritability, nausea, and vision problems. Symptoms can last for weeks or several months.
Post-concussion care helps to relieve symptoms
Your doctor or neurologist may refer you to a rehabilitation program for therapy. Therapy may include occupational therapy, physical therapy and speech therapy.
