What is rehabilitation therapy at home?
The goal of home rehabilitation care is to help you reach your best functional outcome. Our multi-disciplinary approach to patient-centered care includes individual treatment plans focused on:
- Regaining movement, strength, balance, speech, cognition, mobility and independence
- Returning to work, sport or activities of daily living
- Educating patients and caregivers

Home rehabilitation services
MaineHealth provides a wide range of home rehabilitation services, including, but not limited to:
- Physical therapy: Physical therapists work with patients to improve movement and strength after an accident, injury or illness.
- Occupational therapy: Occupational therapists help patients with physical and cognitive skills needed for activities such as bathing, dressing and preparing meals.
- Speech language pathology: Speech therapists help patients learn to speak more clearly/loudly, to better understand speech and to use adaptive communication tools. They also help patients who have difficulty swallowing due to injury or illness.
- Post-operative care: Therapists provide post-operative home safety evaluations and education, adaptive equipment assessments, pain management and therapeutic services.
- Orthopedic rehabilitation: Orthopedic rehabilitation helps patients recovering from joint replacement surgery regain strength and independence.
- Cardiopulmonary rehabilitation: Cardiopulmonary rehabilitation therapists help patients with heart and lung disease regain strength and independence.
