Give in memory or honor of a loved one
Making a gift to MaineHealth Philanthropy - Pen Bay and Waldo Hospitals is a wonderful way to remember or honor a loved one. When you make a memorial or honor gift, you will receive an acknowledgement letter and a notification will be sent to the honoree's family (provided that we have their contact information) that a gift has been made in their honor. We will not disclose the amount of the gift to the honoree’s family. There are many ways to make a memorial gift:
- Online: Choose one of the categories on our online donation page, and complete the Tribute Information section on the donation form.
- By check: Please make a note in the check memo line that the gift is being made in memory of your loved one, and include their name. Please also note if the funds should be directed to a specific program.
Set up a recurring gift
Setting up a recurring gift is an easy way to support MaineHealth Philanthropy - Pen Bay and Waldo Hospitals while distributing your gift throughout the year. To set up a recurring gift, visit our online donation page, select Recurring Gift for the gift type, and indicate the frequency and dates you prefer.
Consider a stock gift
Giving long-term appreciated stock offers you a two-fold tax saving. First, you receive a tax deduction for the full fair market value of the stock on the date of the gift. In addition, you may avoid paying capital gains tax on the increase in value of your stock. Please call Amy McNaughton at 207-301-6716 to discuss gifts of stock.
Make a qualified charitable distribution through your IRA
If you are age 70 1/2 years or older, you can make tax-free, charitable donations directly from your IRA. This convenient charitable giving opportunity became a permanent part of the federal tax code in 2015 and allows for direct transfers from a traditional IRA to eligible not-for-profit organizations.
The provision allows for up to $100,000 in charitable distributions from individual IRAs each year. Married couples can give up to $200,000 annually. For individuals and couples who have not been withdrawing from their IRA (which is taxed at their top marginal income tax rate), it can be an excellent financial planning option.
For more information about making a qualified charitable distribution or any kind of planned gift to MaineHealth Philanthropy - Pen Bay and Waldo Hospitals please contact Ellie Willmann at ellie.willmann@mainehealth.org or Amy McNaughton at amy.mcnaughton@mainehealth.org.
