MaineHealth New Life Program North Conway promotes a coordinated approach to care for pregnant people with substance use disorder. By integrating midwifery/obstetric care and substance use treatment we aim to improve care coordination, the patient experience, ongoing maternal success and newborn health. This program is supported in part by The Thomas D. Shaffner Charitable Foundation.
Pregnancy is often a time when people struggling with substance user disorder find new motivation to address their behavioral health condition. Our program helps people with substance use disorder build connections to medical care teams as well as peer support.
Prenatal substance use disorder program overview
- Education on various topics related to pregnancy, well-being and infant care
- Group substance use counseling session
- Social work support services (housing, transportation, etc.)
- Prenatal care visits
- Physician visit for pharmacologic management of opioid dependence
- Health care coordination and health care follow up by an RN coordinator
- Complementary therapies to support mental health
- Referrals to community support services
How do I get started?
- Call 603-356-9355 to speak with the nurse coordinator. We will ask a few questions and help you schedule an intake visit.
- At the intake visit, you will meet with a nurse to complete a health history and withdrawal assessment.
- Program guidelines will be reviewed and any questions or concerns may be addressed. A visit with the provider will follow.
- When all forms and any laboratory testing is complete, you will be invited to attend the following program day.
