MaineHealth Medical Center (MHMMC) is a nationally-recognized academic medical center with an impressive history of outstanding and innovative residency and fellowship programs. MHMMC is approved to train over 400 trainees in our 17 ACGME-accredited residency programs, 19 ACGME-accredited fellowship programs, two rural tracks and rural concentration.

The robust clinical experience afforded by MHMMC, the second largest institution in New England, is supported by dedicated faculty, high-quality didactics and simulation-based teaching at the Hannaford Center for Safety, Innovation & Simulation. MHMMC further distinguishes itself as a premier academic institution by offering five academic tracks to support niche training for residents and fellows.

As the flagship of the MaineHealth system, MHMMC builds on over 150 years of commitment to graduate medical education (GME). MHMMC has a national reputation as a GME innovator, having successfully obtained over $12 million during the last decade dedicated to innovation within our GME programs. MHMMC has received federal, state and private foundation grants to support:

• Interprofessional, team-based training with prestigious American Medical Association and ACGME national grants
• Rural and underserved community medical education
• Underserved urban community education
• Addiction medicine, preventive medicine and cardiology education
• Workforce development education

Rural training opportunities

MHMMC, along with three other ACGME-accredited Sponsoring Institutions in Maine, has received multiple grants to create the innovative “Maine Rural GME Education (MERGE) Collaborative" to create an infrastructure of GME training sites across rural Maine. Though the majority of GME training occurs at the MHMMC, residents and fellows have rotations and electives at important clinical sites across Maine.
