MaineHealth supports students enrolled in advanced practice provider (APP) degree programs by providing clinical mentorship and educational pathways that lead to experienced, well-rounded graduates who have the experience and skills needed to enter Maine's APP workforce.
The Advanced Practice Provider Education Office serves as the centralized liaison for all APP student clinical placements across over 700 MaineHealth care locations. We work with the school, the student and the preceptor to secure a placement and handle the administrative paperwork associated with clinical clearance and access to ensure the student has everything they need to start their rotation.
Apply for a Rotation
- To apply for a rotation at any MaineHealth facility, complete and submit the APP Student Application Form. If you have more than one request, please submit a form for each request.
- You should submit your application at least three months in advanced of the rotation.
- Submitting a request does not guarantee placement.
- If you already have a rotation/preceptor secured at MaineHealth, please complete this form to notify the APP Education Office which will initiate the MaineHealth clearance process.
Questions? Please contact APPEducation@mainehealth.org.

APP Student Pod Programs
In addition to individualized clinical placement requests, MaineHealth offers a rare opportunity to apply for and enroll in a year-long clinical training program designed to fulfill total rotation/clinical hour requirements for some of MaineHealth’s partner academic institutions. Check back for information regarding additional student pod programs currently under development.
MaineHealth Acute Care Pod
For learners who desire to practice in a Maine hospital setting, the MaineHealth Acute Care Pod provides immersion rotations in MaineHealth inpatient services. The program offers up to five spots per year to APP students who are currently enrolled in a Maine school or university. The Pod has both a PA and NP student track. Students are placed in both rural and urban settings.
To apply, email the APP Education Office for more information. Applications must be received in January (exact date varies each year). Email APPEducation@mainehealth.org to inquire about this year's deadline.
