What is internal medicine?
Internal medicine physicians provide care for adults age 18 and older. Their responsibilities include health maintenance and disease screening, diagnosis and care of acute and chronic medical conditions, and management of patients with multiple complex medical problems.
Internists may focus their practice on general internal medicine and primary care. Others may have additional training, with sub-specialties in specific areas, including:
