Ryker was born at MaineHealth Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital (MHBBCH) at just 26 weeks gestation, weighing 1 lb. 8 oz. Being born so early, Ryker had surgery for a trach to help him breathe, a feeding tube to help him eat, and spent months receiving care in the MHBBCH NICU. When he transferred to the PICU, his nurses nicknamed “the Gov’nah” and helped his family learn how to take care of Ryker with all of the specialized medical equipment he needs. Their care and training worked - Ryker got to go home for the first time in 2024, just in time to celebrate his second birthday!
