Meet McKenzie | MaineHealth Barbara Bush Children's Hospital

When McKenzie was about a month old, her mother noticed that she was having a hard time eating and growing. A visit to her pediatrician to discuss these concerns resulted in an ambulance ride to MaineHealth Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital, where McKenzie spent the next 2 weeks. Genetic testing revealed a rare diagnosis of Infantile Pompe Disease. Today, McKenzie is 8 years old and has had more than 100 visits to MHBBCH. She and her mom consider the MHBBCH staff their family, and the first thing McKenzie does when she’s hospitalized is to visit “Miss Alice” on the Child Life team for a hug.
