Ziyad Binsalamah

I’m a board-certified cardiac surgeon. I specialize in the surgical management of children and adults with congenital heart disease. Focusing on improving the surgical outcomes, quality of care and the length of hospital stay following congenital heart surgery. I came to MaineHealth from Texas Children's Hospital and Baylor College of Medicine where I did my congenital heart surgery training and I was an associate professor in surgery, a director of congenital heart surgery quality and the surgical director of the largest coronary artery anomaly program in the country. During my stay in Houston, the heart program became the number one pediatric heart program by U.S. News and World Report and has been in the same ranking for the past seven years.

My main clinical interests include the treatment of neonates and infants with simple and complex congenital heart defects, patients with single ventricle physiology, aortic arch reconstruction, aortic root surgeries, heart failure patients and patients with coronary artery anomalies.

My research interests include aortic arch anomalies, coronary artery anomalies, pediatric heart failure and mechanical circulatory support including ventricular assist devices.
