Scott A Buchanan, MD
- Thoracic and Cardiac Surgery
I grew up in Lynnfield, Massachusetts and attended college at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island. I received my Medical Degree from Duke University in Durham, North Carolina and spent 10 years at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville receiving specialized training in General Surgery, Vascular Surgery and Cardiothoracic Surgery. After completing my training in 2001, I joined the faculty at Maine Medical Center where I have been honored to practice since. I serve as the Co-Director of the MMC Advanced Valve Disease Clinic and Chief, Division of Cardiac Surgery.
I live in Yarmouth with my wife and four children who keep us very busy outside the hospital. I enjoy running and swimming as well as renovating old houses on weekends. I suspect my interest in becoming a doctor came from watching far too many M*A*S*H episodes as a kid. (Hawkeye Pierce was smart, honest, and funny.) I consider it a profound honor to be entrusted with the well – being of my patients as they encounter and overcome cardiac illnesses. Excellence in cardiac surgery requires -- in equal parts -- technical precision, depth of knowledge and experience, and a commitment to providing compassionate and personalized care to each patient and his or her family. I pledge to bring these qualities to the clinic, the bedside, and the operating room each day to produce safe, effective and gratifying outcomes for my patients.
